The two (2) sided combination whetstone offers two (2) degrees of coarseness for honing a knife's edge. The peach coloured side has a Coarse Grade Finish (300 Grit) for honing a knife's dull edge, this should be used when the knife's blade is chipped, damaged or completely blunt. The blue coloured side has a Fine Grade Finish (1000 Grit) and is used in the second step of honing, for bringing the knife's edge to a sharpness suitable for use, this is the main stone required for sharpening knives which have become blunt. The whetstone requires submersion in water for at least 10 to 15 minutes before it can be used. It then fits into a removable rubber base that prevents slippage while it's being used.
